QuickTime Player, the video player and editing tool bundled with the Mac for ages, received a fairly major overhaul when it turned into QuickTime Player X. While it became free and lost the need to upgrade to a Pro version, it also lost out on a lot of really nice professional features that QuickTime Player 7 had. Perhaps most missed from QuickTime Player 7 is the excellent A/V tools panel, which allows users to adjust the video brightness, color, contrast, tint, playback speed, audio volume, audio balance, bass, treble, pitch shift, and playback.
This tip did not work for me running 10.12.6. I did download QT7.6.6 but it will not open and stay open. It quits in 1 second. I have the pro keys and am considering downgrading to a previous OS version just to have QT 7 Pro back. What was the last version of Mac OS that allowed QT7 to open. Sierra DOES NOT. Thanks

Unfortunately, while it remains a must-use app for Apple users, the development of the Windows version has taken a backseat. That said, though, if you're looking for a simple, functional, and feature-packed multimedia player on your computer, QuickTime download will be a good choice.
Apple no longer sells QuickTime Pro. If you already have a QuickTime Pro key, download the free QuickTime 7 player, open it, choose Registration from the QuickTime Player 7 menu, and put the key and the name it was registered to there.

If you own a Mac, QuickTime Pro isn't the only game in town. If you like the idea of QuickTime Pro's features, but not its price tag, and downloading it or getting a serial code for it from elsewhere isn't something you're keen on, there are several good alternatives.
iMovie comes bundled with your Mac. It's a simple video editor, and if you want to make a picture slideshow with music, or edit home video or downloaded video, it's a great place to start. It's fully compatible with iPad and iPhone, too, so you can send your video to those devices. It supports saving video in .mov format, but it's less of a media player than QuickTime. Price: Free. This video creating and editing tool is formerly known as CineFX. It's a great alternative to QuickTime Pro, coming with a wealth of features for video creation and editing. It's open-source and free, though the creators rely on donations from users in order to support it.Price: Free. Get it here

This license is commonly used for video games and it allows users to download and play the game for free. The app has a PRO version which uncovers even more valuable features. AirPlay, Chromecast, and DLNA streaming, web content downloads, and other advanced options will enhance your media experience to the fullest.
Another free QuickTime Player alternative worth considering is GOM Player. It supports all of the most popular multimedia files. It has a simple, clean interface that you can customize completely using skins. However, it has a bit of a learning curve. There is a mobile app, GOM Remote, that lets you control the desktop software without moving from your couch. GOM has a paid Premium Video Player available as well.

Our next pick is Cisdem Video Player. Designed specifically for Mac, it offers wide support for various audio and video file formats and plays 1080P/4K/5K/8K videos smoothly. The player is free to use, but offers in-app purchases to unlock the conversion feature. Among other things, Cisdem allows you to add external subtitles (supports .ass and .srt formats). For that, is there a QuickTime 7 similar media player to play legacy videos? VLC and 5KPlayer would presumably be among the best, as both of them allow you to play various types of media. Take 5KPlayer as an example, it's skilled and comprehensive free video player, which can play legacy video files based on QuickTime 7 framework formats and codec, 4K/HD high-def videos, DVD files and music and even online radio channels for free.
For previous QuickTime download, you should know that the download page has been no longer updated by Apple. You are able to download a previous version of QuickTime 6.4 for Windows from the link below. The QuickTime 6.4 is covered by a software license agreement. 2ff7e9595c
